Key Family of Companies (one of the country's largest independently owned Third Party Administrators) is now accepting applications for an Associate Attorney to join our leadership team in the Indianapolis, IN 46250 headquarters location. Comprehensive benefit package is included.


Associate Attorney Position Summary: the Associate Attorney (AA) supports the General Counsel ("GC") who is responsible for the legal affairs of the various companies which make up the Key Family of Companies ("Key"). The AA will be in charge of the compliance activities of the Key companies with an emphasis on aiding Key and Key clients with maintaining compliance with federal and state laws and regulations as they relate to corporate activities and employee benefit plans.  The Associate Attorney will also maintain a catalog of all Key company contracts and agreements.  The Associate Attorney will provide legal counsel and support to the executive team and all levels of employees and unofficially to Key insurance brokers and Key clients.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Associate Attorney Position:

  • Advising the company and senior management on a broad range of federal and state regulatory and compliance matters, including identifying areas of risk and making suggestions for improvement.
  • Ensure that Key as corporate entities maintain compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations that impact their businesses. 
  • Ensure that the employee benefit plans offered and administered by Key are compliant with all federal and state laws and regulations. 
  • Keep informed of industry-specific regulations.
  • Maintain corporate contracts and manage contract information tracking. 
  • Advising on employment matters in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Research and analyze law and regulation for the preparation of legal memoranda.
  • Provide advice and counsel to Key employees on business matters.
  • The Associate Attorney will analyze and summarize legal documents.
  • Interpret laws, rulings and regulations for Key leadership.
  • Attend conferences and seminars related to benefits administration and insurance regulation.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.


 Associate Attorney Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Must possess strong initiative as well as excellent management, teamwork, delegation and problem-solving skills.
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) is required.
  • Bar admission in good standing.
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience with compliance requirements of federal and state law and regulations.
  • Experience with ERISA, employee benefits, health insurance, and HIPAA privacy issues.
  • Experience with contract control procedures.
  • Familiarity with periodic reporting, regulatory and corporate governance mandates.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced business environment.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Law firm experience a plus.
  • Sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information to provide advice.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Proficient in Word and experienced with Excel.
