Key Family of Companies is currently seeking a Director, Commission and Premium Accounting for our Operational Accounting Department at our Indianapolis, IN 46250 location.  Full benefit package included.  

Position Summary: the Director, Commission and Premium Accounting is responsible for the management and leadership of the staff whose primary responsibilities include all functions relating to premium accounting and commission payments.  

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Evaluate and oversee management of:
    • Reconciling members billed to cash received process.
    • Cash posting process.
    • Cash distribution including commissions.
    •  Processes surrounding commission and vendor payments.
    • Accounts receivable and lapse notice communication process with employers and agents.  Process should take into consideration notices across all requisite carriers.
    • Team review and initiation of premium and claims surplus refunds.
    • Reconciliation of terminated groups.
    • Reconciliation of plan year for active groups.
    • Management of claim fund balances.
    • Management of Collection/invoicing processes.
    • Management of KeySolution weekly administration process.
    • Customer service relating to Department workflows.
    • New systems and systems enhancement testing and implementations for Department.
    • Assisting in preparation and distribution of the Key Indicators and transparency reporting for all job duties.  Oversee, approve and ensure compliance with resolution plans for any issues outside of Key Indicators service standards.
    • Maintaining staffing standards based on production/time studies and thereafter monitor staffing needed.  
  • Establish and implement business strategy for Department to ensure industry competitiveness, cost effectiveness, and excellent customer satisfaction within the guidelines established by the Profit Center Managers and the Op's Board.  Document strategy on at least an annual basis.  
  • Assist in preparation of annual budget for department. 
  • Develops accounting organizational strategies by contributing accounting and financial information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction; establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives. 
  • Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected. 
  • Coordinates work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of the company financial records. Is further responsible for the implementation of agreed upon recommendations, related to areas of responsibility, resulting from the audit findings. 
  • Performance management including written periodic staff reviews, establishing written formal performance improvement plans, and written annual evaluations. 
  •  Interview and hire employees to perform the functions within the department. 
  • Assist employees with their development so they may continually grow in their current position/career.  This includes mentoring employees so they are capable of running department in manager's absence. 
  • Responsible to ensure that departmental staff is properly trained. 
  • Other work-related duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • This position will strategically oversee, evaluate and manage the responsible Managers, Team Lead(s), and staff for the functions of the department.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage a staff to successfully accomplish stated goals and to run department in the Manager's absence.
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize and plan.
  • A strong sense of urgency.
  • BS in Accounting or related field.
  • CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • At least five to seven years of management experience in a Director or Officer level position.
  • At least 5 years' experience in TPA and/or health insurance industry.
  • Some travel required.
